Several school-age children are affected by lack of food at home. Many of the children are drafted to help their families in their subsistence living, in farming and in trades. These activities often results in the children dropping out of school completely.

WHO states that around 27.4% of Africa’s population is food insecure and shockingly, the statistics keep worsening at a much steadier rate in sub-Saharan Africa. Build-a-School Initiative believe that through in-school food program, many children will have an opportunity to remain in the classroom.

we take initiatives to bring down the spiking numbers of starved children by inculcating food insecurity as a prime goal in our programs. A hungry child can never succeed in life because success demands focus, and a hungry stomach completely blocks the mind’s ability to think. When their diets are affected, many health-related diseases come with and with sickening students, there is hardly any progress no matter how good the cause. We hope that people like you who have the power to give will contribute to the cause of in-school food security and better the lives of thousands of children out there who need us.

Build-a-School Initiative believes that students can only truly thrive when their bodies are physically ready to do so. School hours turn out to be some of the most draining hours in a child’s day. Right through midday, it is commonly observed that students lose interest in the activities being conducted and a significant reason for it is that their nutrition and digestion. To prevent anything coming in the way of our students and their excellent potential, we initiate programs that target to eliminate hunger in classrooms. We provide meals to children throughout the day to ensure that their energy levels stay up and their minds work equally well. By doing as little as ensuring the students are fed, one can cause a change for the greater good of the future. 

While we address the nutritional needs of children in school, we also do our best to ensure their needs outside of school. These students come from underprivileged families, some of whom can only afford a meal per day to feed their whole family. Besides tackling in-school food insecurity , we have launched a take-home food program that allows the students to carry their meals back home. Even helping a child out with a single meal can reduce the load on the parents by many more significant amounts than we realize. We have the vision to see all the students in our folds healthily thriving in academics and extracurriculars. These young souls have so much life instilled within them, and even if we can make a littlest of contribution, we’d go out of our way to do it.  A healthy path to a brighter future mean that Besides investing in their present school physical development, we also believe that, the primary investment in their future also include providing a healthy meal foundation.

By taking care of the in-school food security, we have set forth on a journey to reduce the burdens on the families of these children. Education shouldn’t be a burden to a family; it’s a fundamental right. Health shouldn’t come with a price, too; every child deserves a healthy and thriving childhood.
